Title
Willard R. Ross Postcard Collection
Date Created
1903-01-01
Abstract
The Willard R. Ross Postcard Collection is comprised of original photographic postcard prints, primarily of the streets and architecture of Washington D.C. and the surrounding areas from the 1910s to 1930s.
Photographer Willard R. Ross (1860-1948) moved to the district around 1910, where he became a postcard photographer specializing in “hometown” views. The collection consists largely of building and street views – churches, cemeteries, schools, businesses, and other public buildings are well represented – but also contains some images of Washingtonians, including many images of the adventures of the Wanderlusters, a co-ed hiking club. Ross assigned captions and non-unique numbers to most of his postcard images which are used as the item titles.
