About this collection

Ballot initiative 77 was an initiative to raise wages for tipped workers in Washington, D.C. to match the higher minimum wage in the city, as voted on by the residents of the District of Columbia on June 19, 2018.  The measure was approved, but continues to generate controversy.

This dataset contains tweet IDs of 10,369 tweets related to ballot initiative 77. The tweets referenced were collected between June 19, 2018 and July 12, 2018 from the Twitter API using Social Feed Manager. They were located via hashtag search; tweets collected therefore pre-date the date and time of the initial query. The unaltered tweet collection can be viewed by on-site researchers only; to view from home, download the "Initiative 77 Tweet IDs (Version 1.0)" text file, and open it in Hydrator, a link to which can be found below:

Distribution of complete tweet datasets is prohibited by Twitter's terms of service. This dataset, however, was generated when the referenced tweets were "dehydrated," a process which extracts only tweet IDs, which can be freely distributed. "Rehydrated" tweet datasets can be used by remote researchers, but may not be distributed.  DC Public Library accepts no responsibility for the distribution of rehydrated datasets.

DC Public Library asserts no claim of ownership of these tweet IDs, or the tweets to which they refer.
